The regional secretary for Friuli Venezia Giulia, John Dodds,
is a professor.
Prof Dodds began his academic career at the University of Cairo in 1976, he then moved to Italy in 1979 where he became a language assistant for the English Department of the University of Udine.
A few years later, he transferred to the University of Trieste where in 1994 he became Dean of the Interpreters’ School there.
He has also been Visiting Professor at the University of Lugano, as well as Honorary Consul for Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Secretary-General of the Corps Consulaire until 2007. At present he is Deputy Director of the University Language Centre.
Prof. Dodds continues to lecture at the Interpreters' School of Trieste and to do research in English Linguistics and Translation Studies.
He has published extensively in English and in Italian on a variety of aspects of Comparative Linguistics and Translation Theory. His books on the analysis and translation of literary and poetic texts, especially the translation of Dante Alighieri, indicate his main research interests.
He is consultant editor of HarperCollins Bilingual Reference, the largest publishers in Europe today, and he is also on several advisory boards of international reviews like ESP Across Cultures and Rivista Internazionale di Tecnica della Traduzione.
