Friuli Venezia Giulia’s frontier with Eastern Europe makes the region an “economic outpost” in the EU’s enlargement process. Located in the region are numerous specialist scientific research centres which make the city of Trieste Italy’s “science capital”. The many historic, ethnic and linguistic differences that have developed in this “crossroads” over the centuries have undoubtedly given the region a rich cultural heritage.
