Bari – Puglia’s capital and home of the annual “Fiera del Levante” – is a focal point for trade and financial services. The region is also known for its high-quality agricultural produce. Taranto has numerous artefacts reflecting the city’s splendour at the time of Magna Grecia while Lecce is the high spot of Southern Italian Baroque. Near Taranto, Martina Franca and Alberobello offer a unique architectural feature, the “trulli”: circular, dry-stone houses with thick walls and conical roofs. Salento, the “heel” of Italy now sometimes called “Salentoshire” due to the great influx of Brits, is famous for the clearest sea water in Italy.
