Andersen International School is a Pre School, Primary School and Middle School for children aged from eighteen months to thirteen/fourteen years. The school is a member of COBIS (Council of British International Schools) www.cobis.org.uk, an organization that oversees the quality of private and international schools in the UK and abroad.
The Nursery class admits children from the age of eighteen months and bases its day on developing children through the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, which is followed by English nurseries and schools.
Children from three to five also follow the Early Years Foundation Stage of the English National Curriculum, working towards the Early Learning Goals in the seven areas of learning:
• Personal, social and emotional development
• Communication and language
• Physical development
• Understanding of the World
• Expressive Arts and Design
From the age of five, pupils follow the English National Curriculum, with an assessment at the end of Key Stage 1 (age 7) and Key Stage 2 (age 11). In order to ensure parity with English schools, the assessments are obtained from the UK Standards and Testing agency which is used by schools in England. ELTL consultants who moderate in schools in England visit the school to moderate the assessments which are given.
Pupils from the age of five also follow the Italian National curriculum and are prepared for the Italian school assessments. In this way pupils should transfer easily into an English or Italian school.
Pupils from the age of eleven until fourteen attend the Middle School where they follow both the English and Italian Curriculum. The school is paretaria and the students are able to carry out the Terza Media examination at the school. The KS3 Curriculum from the English National Curriculum is followed including the appropriate annual assessments.
