Dear Members and Friends,
A warm welcome back! I hope you enjoyed your Ponte break and are ready for new challenges before the Christmas Season starts.
I am delighted to be given the task of writing November’s monthly newsletter, and I take this opportunity to introduce myself to those whom I have not had the pleasure to meet yet.
I joined the Council in July 2018, and I was appointed BCCI National Delegate, with responsibility for coordinating the Chamber’s activities outside Milan, in June 2019.
I am Italian and, although I have always lived in Italy, I am very close to the UK where I fly every time I have the opportunity. I spend my Summer holidays in Wiltshire, attending David Evans’s courses on British History (David taught history at Eton College for 41 years).
My love for the British manners and traditions started when I was a child, at home; I later studied foreign languages at the University Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milano. I chose The British School of Milan for my children’s education and my daughters are now at University in the UK.
In 2002 I founded my company, LM SCHOOL UNIFORMS, with the ambitious aim of bringing the great British tradition of school uniforms to Italy, and the combination of British style and Italian creativity allowed us to bring this great tradition and our Italian and UK products to Saudi Arabia too.
As much as I love the UK, io amo il mio Bel Paese, and therefore being appointed BCCI National Delegate is a great honour to me. Together with our President, Tom, and our Secretary General and CEO, Aaron, we are developing a Regional Strategy: the plan is to replicate the most important and successful Milan events in the different regions where we have a presence.
As you may know, we are currently present in Campania, Emilia Romagna, Lazio, Puglia, Sardegna, Sicilia, Toscana, Veneto and our regional secretaries in those regions are very keen to support our members there. I am glad that many of our Regional Secretaries will be able to attend our Christmas Gala Dinner next December 12th: it will be a great occasion to meet up with them and discuss possible events together! Next January 2020 will see the first BCCI Roadshow develop in selected regions, and many other events are now under construction.
Lastly, as we renew our support of the charity FIORI DI LAVANDA, I am happy to announce our new commitment in support Action Aid, a charity founded in the UK in 1972 and present in 45 countries in the world. Action Aid is active in Italy, with educational projects and a commitment to helping women who are victims of domestic violence. Together we can make the difference for many people now in distress.
I look forward to meeting many more of you at our future events both in Milan and throughout the rest of the country. I would be especially pleased to hear from any of you based outside Lombardia interested in getting involved in Chamber events or activities; if you, or someone else you know, might be keen to do so, please do get in touch.
Buon novembre a tutti!
BCCI Councillor & National Delegate
