Villa Petra gives guests a privileged location in the popular Puglia region, where visitors flock for its miles of pristine white beaches, its vibrant food and wine culture and its verdant countryside full of olive groves and rustic masseria farms. The owners of this countryside retreat have designed the property expressly for the kind of outdoor living southern Italy is famous for – whether it’s a yoga session on the platform, a refreshing swim in the vast pool or dinner under the stars – and the fully glazed exterior walls bring the outside in. Surrounded by the rocky lunar landscape typical in the heel of Italy’s boot, Villa Petra feels like a lush oasis with its olive, almond and fig trees. The blindingly white façade is interspersed with cladding in local stone and glassed-in rooms jutting into the garden; colourful lamps, climbing vines and founding stones add a touch of whimsy. With five bedrooms in the main house and an adjacent outbuilding, the villa can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests, each cocooned in calming whites, cosy creams and tranquil taupes as well as local art and luxury linens.
The open plan living and dining spaces boast floor-to-ceiling windows and a clever mix of local materials, contemporary designer furnishings and a bold colour palette. The eat-in kitchen faces the garden and offers al fresco dining table shaded by a canopy and Mediterranean pines. Sun loungers by the pool, a raised platform for yoga sessions, a rooftop fitness area and an organic vegetable garden ripe for the picking round out the amenities of this stunning property.
