Yesterday (13th April), the UK Electoral Commission (the UK’s independent body set up by the UK Parliament to regulate party and election finance and set standards for well-run elections) designated the lead campaigners for the 23rd June referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union:
In Campaign Ltd has been designated the lead campaigner for the Remain outcome (www.strongerin.co.uk)
Vote Leave Ltd has been designated the lead campaigner for the Leave outcome (www.voteleavetakecontrol.org)
The two campaigners will now have access to specific benefits set out in law during the regulated 'referendum period' which begins tomorrow (15th April). These include a higher spending limit of £7 million, one free distribution of information to voters, the use of certain public rooms, referendum campaign broadcasts and a public grant of up to £600,000.
