The UK referendum, the Spanish elections and the US Presidential campaign represent the main external factors which in the short term will likely influence the market dynamics, already materially affected by the global downfall in aggregate demand. The highly expansive monetary policies unanimously adopted by the central banks are aimed at preventing global stagnation by inducing the economic players to incur into zero cost debt. However, the induced growth multiplication factor appears increasingly low and few are willing to incur in additional debt against the probability of increasingly low return rate on invested capital. The proposed event seeks to provide an understanding of the troubling economic juncture currently unfolding before us.

Our guest of honour and speaker John Hooper (Italy correspondent of The Economist and a Contributing editor of the Guardian) talked about "The Italians ... and the challenges of writing about them".
John Hooper began his career in journalism somewhat unconventionally when, as an 18 year-old Cambridge university freshman, he travelled to the breakaway state of Biafra to help make a network television documentary on the Nigerian civil war.
Since then he has worked for the BBC, NBC, Reuters and several other news organisations. He was diplomatic correspondent of Independent Radio News and has worked as a foreign correspondent on Cyprus, and in Spain, Italy and Germany.
He has also reported from several war zones including, most recently, Afghanistan, Kosovo and Algeria.

In 1997, Hooper was part of the award-winning Observer team that uncovered the first great migrant trafficking disaster in the Mediterranean in which a Maltese vessel, the F174, sank with the loss of almost 300 lives.
He is the author of The Spaniards: a portrait of the new Spain (1986), which won the Allen Lane Award for a best first work of non-fiction; The New Spaniards (1995 and 2006), and The Italians, published in hardback in 2015 and in paperback in January this year.

"Breaking into Britain" – Florence 2-3 February 2016
The British Chamber of Commerce for Italy was delighted to support Toscana Promozione with a presentation to wine producers attending the 6th annual ‘BuyWine’ event in Florence (12 – 13th February 2016). The event was kindly sponsored by Pirola, Pennuto Zei & Associati.
Every year Toscana Promozione runs a series of seminars and training sessions for producers in preparation to this important event. Because the UK was chosen as a key focus this year, the BCCI organized a special seminar: “Breaking into Britain” presented by a panel of experts on the UK market.
- Tom Bruce-Gardyne (Award-Winning Trade Journalist)
- Federico Marelli (Partner, Pirola Pennuto Zei & Associati UK LLP)
- Sergio Barbonetti (Managing Director, Uaidoo Ltd)
The panel provided a great deal of insight and data on the British market.
Topics covered included; routes to market, the structure of the UK trade (on and off-trade), future trends and how to capitalize on the exciting growth in on-line business . Numerous case studies were used to illustrate the different sectors in the market, while an in-depth overview on excise and fiscal aspects completed the session.
This year, among the 260 buyers attending ‘BuyWine 2016’, there will be a good number from the UK keen to source top wines from Tuscany.
