Major General Sir Edward A. Smyth-Osbourne, KCVO, CBE
Deputy Commander of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Italy
Born in Devon and bred in Cornwall; educated at West Downs, Eton and St Andrews; he elected to become a regular soldier and joined The Life Guards in West Germany in 1983.
At Regimental Duty he served in the normal appointments ranging from Troop Leader to Commanding Officer in the United Kingdom, Europe, Central America, Balkans, Middle East and Asia.
At Staff he was, at various times, Chief of Staff of a regional brigade; the lead trainer at the British Army Training Unit Suffield, Western Canada; Military Assistant to the Commander in Chief; a Staff Officer in the Ministry of Defence and Director Force Reintegration, Headquarters International Security Assistance Force, Afghanistan.
In command he led the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Task Force in Kosovo; the Household Cavalry in Great Britain and Afghanistan; 38 (Irish) Brigade in Ulster and, most recently, was the General Officer Commanding London District and Major General the Household Division.
He holds the appointment of Lieutenant Colonel Commanding the Household Cavalry and Silver Stick in Waiting.
He is also President of Army Telemark. Military education included the Staff College at Camberley and the Higher Command and Staff course at the Defence Academy. Married, with 2 children and a hound, his interests include shooting, fishing, walking, skiing, sailing, gardening, rural life and collecting books.
He was appointed, in July 2016, Deputy Commander, NATO Rapid Deployable Corps, Italy.

To facilitate the payment process with invoice, we have made an arrangement with the hotel which will avoid you having to leave your credit card during the event. Please fill in the attached “Credit card authorisation form” and present it at the registration desk. At the end of the event will collect your invoice as usual. Please note that this authorisation will be used only for this event, and it will be destroyed after the payment process.
