A Northumbrian living in Italy for over 30 years, David has a unique combination of Northern English and Italian culture. If anyone has any doubt, his fanatical support for Newcastle United and Inter football teams proves the point. After earning his B.S.c. (Hons) at Sussex University David qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He is now a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales as well as a Registered Auditor in Italy. David joined the then Deloitte, Haskins & Sells in Italy in 1975 and became a Partner of the Firm in 1984. After an initial year and a half in Milan, David spent time in the Florence, Turin, Genoa and Bologna offices of Deloitte before returning to Milan in 1998 when he became Global Client Service Director of the Firm in Italy. In 1998 he was elected Chairman of the Italian Association of International Accountants and in 2000 he was nominated “Contact Member in Italy” by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales – an Ambassador for the British Accounting Profession in the land where double entry book-keeping was “invented”. Since his “return” to Milan, David has been an enthusiastic member of the British Chamber of Commerce for Italy and was elected to the Council in 1999 where he acted as Treasurer from 2000 to 2004. He has been President since January 2006.
