After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1974, Colin worked for Price Waterhouse in London before transferring with the same firm to work in Milan in 1978. In 1982 he joined Barclays in Italy as Group Financial Controller and in 1986 was promoted to become Managing Director of the Barclays factoring subsidiary in Italy. He continued in this role until 1996 when the company was sold to GE Capital. He then became Chief Operating Officer of the Barclays branch in Italy operating initially under BZW and then Barclays Capital. During this period he also took on a number of other managerial responsibilities including that of Managing Director of Dial Italy which he carried out for a year and that of Senior Executive responsible for the exit and liquidation of our leasing business.
At the beginning of 2002 he joined Banca Woolwich as Managing Director. Banca Woolwich is the Group’s residential mortgage business in Italy. In the last few years it has achieved a prominent position in the Italian market, becoming the sixth largest mortgage lender in Italy and the most important mortgage specialist in the country. The business is very successful achieving a high level of profit contribution for the Group and is actively engaged on a number of projects designed to extend its distribution capability and build a platform for the extension of its range of products. When he is not in the office, Colin is a keen football player and cyclist and likes to enjoy the Italian life style, in particular the food and wine, which generally negates the positive effect of all his exercise. Colin is 53 and is married with two daughters.
