The President, the Vice Presidents, the Council and Staff of the British Chamber of Commerce for Italy send their most heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues of Cosima Schütterle whose untimely death was confirmed at the weekend.

Cosima was a long standing member of the Chamber and a stalwart presenter and participant at our events.

She was one of the first European lawyers to pass the exams in Italy for the recognition of her qualification as a German lawyer, and was well-known in Milan business circles for her international legal skills.

She will be sadly missed by all.

We would like to inform you that our offices will be closed from 11th to 29th of August 2014. Our offices will re-open on Monday 1st September.

The BCCI Council and Staff would like to wish you all happy holidays!

The late payment situation in Italy: recent and expected improvements

One of the barriers to doing business in Italy is the risk of late payments or bad debt. Payment terms in Italy are longer than in the UK - the average was about 90 days in 2013 for payments business-to-business - and they can  be  longer in certain sectors, especially healthcare, and when creditors are public administration bodies. UKTI Milan have invited two lawyers from NCTM, a leading legal firm with offices in Milan and London, to advise UK-based companies on how to set payment terms when taking orders from Italian customers and  how to protect themselves  from bad debt.

They will also compare the average payment delay by Italian companies with those of other EU and non-EU countries and illustrate recent actions taken by industry associations and Government to encourage prompter payments by both privately owned companies and state-owned bodies.
