Business Opportunities at Milan Expo 2015

Expo 2015 is the non-commercial universal exposition that will take place in Milan, Italy from May to October 2015 for a total of 184 days. The event will cover a surface area of about 1 million sqm and is expected to attract 20 million people worldwide.

The theme of the exposition will be “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” and will give visibility to the tradition, creativity and innovation of the 142 countries attending.

Introducing the Milan Furniture Fair & Design Week

The International Furniture Fair (Salone del Mobile) is the most strategic business event for the furniture and interiors industry and attracts every year more than 300.000 visitors from all over the world.
It takes place during the Design Week which also includes exhibitions at off-site venues in Milan.

This webinar, designed for UK-based companies from the above-mentioned sectors, will provide a general overview of the Furniture Fair and the Design Week. Participants will hear about this global event which is held every April and will be introduced to the different venues, the main fairground and the off-site areas, and to the UK groups exhibiting during that week. They will also be given advice on how and where to exhibit. On this occasion companies will also be invited to meet up with the UKTI Milan Design team at the UKTI stand within the designjunction exhibition held at Palazzo Morando, right in the city centre, during the next Design Week (8 – 13 April).

Dear Members,

We invite you to the Extraordinary General Meeting to be held on Wednesday 12th March 2014 at the NH President, Largo Augusto 10, Milan.  The EGM will begin at 12.00pm, followed by a Business Lunch buffet.

The EGM has been called to discuss the issues raised and discussed by the Council at recent meetings.

At the meeting of the Council on 23rd September 2013, it was proposed that as the transition started at the BCCI would require 18+ months of further work it made sense not to change President during this time.  This possibility had been shared and discussed with Vic Annells, Consul General, and with HMA, and they were both in agreement.  In order to achieve this continuity the Council voted unanimously that John Law’s tenure as President be extended on an exceptional basis for a further two year period.   According to the constitution of the Chamber such an extension needs to be approved by the members at a special general meeting.  A similar consideration applies to the Vice Presidents and Treasurer.  The Council also thought it would be a good idea to remove the ten year restriction for individuals acting as Councillors.  With such a hard and fast rule the Chamber has lost -  and risks losing in future - the benefit of Councillors who dedicate time and effort into keeping the Chamber going.

Order of the Day

Various amendments to the Articles of Association and in particular:
1) Amendment to article 13 to permit Council to approve re-election of Councillors beyond the ten year term;
2) Amendment to article 16 to enable the President, Treasurer and Vice Presidents to stand for re-election for a further 2 years;
3) Amendment to article 12 removing discriminatory wording;
4) Various minor and formal amendments to reflect updates in English company law.
