As globalization continues apace, international communication gains more and more significance in people’s lives, facilitated by the Internet and by increasing opportunities for worldwide travel.... particularly in the business world but in many other areas too. And across the globe, English is now acknowledged as the lingua franca.
In practically every country where English is not the mother tongue, there is growing awareness of the need to have a good knowledge of the English language. But where and how to study the language most profitably can present a dilemma. The language-teaching market is crowded with providers of services, and for many intending students, objective advice is hard to find.
The British Chamber of Commerce for Italy now offers Italians a comprehensive service designed to meet their English learning needs. The service moves in three directions:
- ELCS provides full information and advice for people who intend to study English “on site”, in England, the USA or elsewhere.
- IPEC (International Professional English Certificate) is now a benchmark qualification, on several levels, for English as a second language for use in business, the legal sector and many other specialist areas
- The BCCI’s Professional Teaching Register contains names and personal details of qualified and experienced teachers of English as a second language working in Italy.
